Sujet:[Mobilization Committee] MEETTING TUESDAY
Organising Meeting:
Tuesday, March 1st
6:30pm
7th floor cafeteria
As of last Thursday, thousands of students across Montreal and Quebec launched a
student strike against changes to the Quebec financial aid program, not the
least being the $103 million that have been cut from bursaries, which has
resulted in the average student debt in Quebec increasing by 62%.
Over a dozen university associations and half a dozen CEGEP associations across
Quebec are currently on strike, including most of the student associations at
both UQAM and lUniversité de Montréal. Many more will be voting to join in
coming weeks.
The strike has come after months of diverse tactics, from lobbying and letter
writing to massive protests and direct student action. The Quebec government,
though, has continued to refuse to negotiate with students, instead staying
silent on the largest cuts to the financial aid program since it was
established in the 1980s.
As of yet, Concordia students have not officially taken a stance on the strike
or planned on how we would like to be involved. This Tuesday evening (March
1st) there will be a meeting in the 7th floor cafeteria open to all students to
discuss our involvement and how to proceed.
Only by all students across the province working together will we be able to
keep the publicly funded, accessible education system that we have worked so
hard for.

Hope to see you there,
