Hi All,

I'm writing in hopes that either you or any of your contacts might be
able to translate the below press release into French for the demo
that Holly, GSA exec has worked so hard to put together in a very
short time frame.

It is important that this goes out to French media.

Once I have a response, I'll inform everyone else so that we don't
have any duplication of effort.

Looking forward to hearing back.

Thank you so much!
Rushdia

Students Support Postal Workers in Struggle
       Against
       Erosion of Public Services

Monday, June 20, 2011 – Montreal members of
     Students for
Posties will hold a demonstration in support of locked out postal
     workers at
1500 St. Catherine Street W. tomorrow, Tuesday June 21 at 1:30pm.
     The Canada
Post located in the Pharmaprix at this address is one of the most
     commonly used
by Concordia students. Faculty and community members are also
     expected.

“Students wanted a chance to show their support
     somewhere
that was accessible without a car, and while we realize that the
     employees who
work at Canada Post locations in Pharmaprix stores are not part of
     the union,
we think that’s part of the broader issue of secure, decently-paid
     jobs
becoming harder and harder to find. This is especially a problem
     for young
people and we can see that in Canada Post’s demand that the
     starting wage for
new postal workers drop significantly,” said Holly Nazar,
     Vice-President
External for the Graduate Students’ Association of Concordia,
     which has
endorsed the Students for Posties statement.

Students for Posties oppose any legislation
     forcing postal
workers back to work after Canada Post management imposed a
     lockout. The
Canadian Civil Liberties Association has condemned the Harper
     government’s
promise to do so as harmful to collective bargaining rights. In
     spite of
turning a profit for 16 consecutive years the crown corporation
     Canada Post
wishes to reduce starting salaries, reduce new employees’ benefits
     and job
security, provide a smaller pension, and claw back many provisions
     included in
     current contracts.

   Thirteen student and university associations
     including the
University of Toronto Students’ Union, Concordia Students’ Union,
     Students’
Society of McGill University and the province-wide Quebec student
     association
ASSÉ fully support the Students for Posties statement. The
     document notes the
struggle postal workers face link to student concerns: “We support
     the postal
workers’ strike since we recognize that their struggle is
     intimately linked to
our own fight for quality, accessible education. Tuition fee
     increases and the
growing influence of the private sector in public universities are
     part of the
same set of policies that would erode the working and living
     conditions of all
     Canadian postal workers.”

The U of T Student Worker Solidarity Working
     Group will hold
a similar demonstration in Toronto Wednesday.
