Depuis plus de 80 ans et la révolte arabe de 1936 en Palestine, le peuple palestinien lutte contre l'accaparement de ses terres dans le cadre du projet colonial sioniste ayant commencé avant même le Mandat britannique sur le territoire palestinien. Depuis la « Nakba » (la Catastrophe) de 1948, le saccage, l'exploitation et le contrôle de la Palestine par l'État d'Israël représente l'un des cas les plus récents du colonialisme occidental sur une terre autochtone.
L'expansionnisme israélien, malgré que le fait qu'il soit condamné par la « communauté internationale » pour son illégalité, notamment au sein de l'Organisation des Nations Unies, se poursuit au grè de violents bombardements sur des quartiers civils, de déplacements forcés de la population palestinienne, de contrôles à répétions, de détentions, d'emprisonnements et d'assassinats — faisant ainsi d'Israël un « éternel dissident » en matière de droits humains.
Aujourd'hui, alors que la moitié des Palestinien.ne.s vivent toujours en exil, l'autre moitié subit sur une base quotidienne de l'intimidation, du harcèlement, de la discrimination et de la violence physique et psychologique sur sa propre terre. Gaza, symbole de la résistance palestinienne, est désormais une prison à ciel ouvert pour ceux et celles qui y vivent. Malgré tout, la lutte palestinienne continue et des Palestiniennes et des Palestiniens sont assassiné.e.s tous les jours..
Des peuples unis, jamais ne seront vaincus
Compte tenu de la complicité de nombreux gouvernements avec l'État d'Israël, au premier rang desquels on compte le Canada [1], la solidarité avec la lutte du peuple palestinien est à l'avant-poste de tous les combats contre l'impérialisme, et visant à défendre la justice dans le monde. Cette solidarité internationale prend des formes différentes, dont certaines sont dictées par les Palestinien.ne.s eux/elles-mêmes.
En l'espèce, la campagne de Boycott, Désinvestissement et Sanctions (BDS) se démarque par son origine citoyenne. Ainsi, cet appel international de la société civile palestinienne demande la fin de l'occupation et de la colonisation des terres palestiniennes, le démantèlement du Mur et la levée du blocus de Gaza, l'égalité complète pour les citoyennes et citoyens arabo-palestiniens d'Israël et le respect du droit au retour des réfugié.e.s palestiniens. Depuis dix ans, la campagne BDS s'est progressivement étendue, a connu beaucoup de succès, et commence à être considérée comme une menace sérieuse par les stratèges sionistes et leurs allié.e.s.
Précisément à cause de ce succès témoignant surtout d'une volonté des citoyennes et des citoyens de s'unir contre ce qui est désormais un État d'apartheid, la contre-attaque a commencé. En France des militant.e.s sont traduit.e.s en justice, aux États-Unis et en Grande Bretagne des organisations sont visées par des coupes budgétaires, alors qu'au Canada le Parlement a récemment voté une motion contre la campagne BDS. Ces diverses actions sont orientées vers un même objectif, clair et sans précédent : faire reculer le support grandissant envers la campagne BDS par une criminalisation des organisations et des individus qui la soutiennent.
Le premier Forum social mondial du « Nord » rejette le BDS
En 2012, une édition spéciale du Forum social mondial (FSM) consacrée à la Palestine, au Brésil, appelait «au renforcement de la solidarité et au boycott contre l'État d'apartheid». Pourtant, et ce malgré une volonté de la base militante, quatre ans plus tard, le premier Forum social mondial du « Nord » refuse de respecter l'appel au BDS. Nous regrettons et condamnons fermement cette position.
Alors que l'édition 2016 du FSM se déroule dans un autre État colonial, il est essentiel de s'assurer que les espaces militants altermondialistes soient réellement « sans Apartheid », c'est-à-dire sans produits israéliens, sans entreprises ciblées par la campagne BDS et sans organisations israéliennes qui ne seraient pas explicitement anticoloniales. Une position toute autre — celle, par exemple, d'une supposée « neutralité politique » de ce rassemblement — correspond en fait à un refus de répondre favorablement à l'appel du peuple palestinien.
Il est également essentiel que le Comité international du FSM s'engage à adopter les principes de la campagne BDS, en solidarité avec la lutte du peuple palestinien jusqu'à l'atteinte des objectifs fixés par les Palestiniennes et les Palestiniens lors du lancement de la campagne.
C'est dans cet esprit que nous invitons toutes les personnes opposées à l'impérialisme occidental et éprises de justice sociale, de l'Île de la Tortue jusqu'en Palestine, à défiler dans les rues de Montréal pour exprimer cette solidarité avec la Palestine et tous les peuples autochtones. Crions-le à nouveau : Palestine vivra, Palestine vaincra!
[1] Rappelons ainsi que la majorité des grands partis fédéraux ont soutenu et continue de soutenir Israël dans son expansion, soit directement ou indirectement.

For over 80 years and since the Arab revolt in Palestine in 1936, the Palestinian people have been struggling against the seizure of their land in a Zionist colonial project that began even before the British Mandate on Palestinian territory. Since the "Nakba" (Catastrophe) of 1948, the destruction, exploitation and control of Palestine by the State of Israel is one of the most recent cases of Western colonialism on indigenous lands.
Despite condemnation by the "international community" for its illegality, including by the United Nations, Israeli expansionism continues through the violent bombing of civilian neighbourhoods, the forced displacement of the Palestinian population, and ongoing detention, imprisonment and killings - thus making Israel an "eternal dissident" on human rights.
Today, while half of Palestinians still live in exile, the other half suffers on a daily basis from bullying, harassment, discrimination and physical and psychological violence on their own land. Gaza, symbol of the Palestinian resistance, is now an open air prison for those who live there. Nevertheless, the Palestinian struggle continues and Palestinian women and men are killed on a daily basis.
Peoples, united, will never be defeated
Given the complicity of many governments with the State of Israel, including Canada [1], solidarity with the Palestinian struggle is at the forefront of all fights against imperialism, and to defend justice in the world. This international solidarity takes different forms, some of which take direction from Palestinians themselves.
For example, the Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions (BDS) stands out for its grassroots origin. This international call from Palestinian civil society demands the end of occupation and colonization of Palestinian land, the dismantling of the Wall and the lifting of the Gaza blockade, full equality for Arab-Palestinian citizens of Israel and respect of the right of return for Palestinian refugees. For ten years, the BDS campaign has been gradually expanding, becoming increasingly successful, and is beginning to be seen as a serious threat by the Zionists strategists and their allies.
Precisely because of this success, reflecting a willingness of people to unite against what has become an apartheid state, the counter-attack has begun. In France, activists are brought to court; in the United States and Great Britain, organizations have had their budget cuts; while in Canada the Parliament recently passed a motion against the BDS campaign. These actions are oriented towards the same clear and unprecedented objective: to reduce the growing support to the BDS campaign by criminalizing organizations and individuals that support it.
The first "Northern" World Social Forum rejects BDS
In 2012, a special edition of the World Social Forum (WSF) devoted to Palestine, in Brazil, called for "the strengthening of solidarity and boycott against the apartheid state." Yet, despite the will of the grassroots movements, four years later, the first "Northern" World Social Forum refuses to respect the call for BDS. We regret and strongly condemn this position.
While the WSF 2016 takes place in another colonial state, it is essential to ensure that anti-globalization activist spaces are truly "without Apartheid," that is to say without Israeli products or companies targeted by BDS, and without Israeli organizations that are not explicitly anti-colonial. Any other position - such as, for example, a supposed "political neutrality" of this gathering - in fact corresponds to a refusal to support he call of the Palestinian people.
It is also essential that the International Committee of the WSF be committed to implementing the principles of the BDS campaign, in solidarity with the struggle of the Palestinian people, to achieve the goals set by the Palestinians at the launch of the campaign.
It is in this spirit that we invite all people opposed to Western imperialism and engaged for social justice, from Turtle Island to Palestine, to march through the streets of Montreal to express solidarity with Palestinians and all indigenous peoples. Say it again: Free, Free, Palestine!
