Du 11 au 14 juin se tiendra le Forum économique international des Amériques (FEIA), réunissant à Montréal des banques mondiales, des élites politiques, et ceux et celles qui nous ont imposé leur crise économique et leurs politiques d'austérité. Leur Conférence de Montréal est organisée en partenariat avec les élites des sociétés suivantes: Power Corporation of Canada, l'Autorité des marchés financiers (AMF), RBC Marchés des Capitaux, Rio Tinto Alcan, Cisco, Sanofi, Total, CDF SUEZ, McKinsey & Compagnie, SNC-Lavalin, la Caisse de dépôt et placement du Québec, et Hydro-Québec. Le thème de la conférence de cette année sera «une économie mondiale en transition».
Parmi ceux et celles qui y seront sont le gouverneur de la Banque de Canada, Mark Carney, ministre des Finances canadien Jim Flaherty, et d'autres architectes d'austérité contre travailleurs, travailleuses, et pauvres ici au Québec et au Canada. L'ex-Président de la Réserve fédérale, Alan Greenspan, y sera, tout comme les gouverneurs des banques centrales du Portugal, de l'Espagne, de la France, du Brésil, du Mexique, et du Canada. Finalement, le FEIA accueillera des délégations de 24 pays, à savoir: l'Afghanistan, l'Allemagne, l'Angleterre, l'Argentine, la Belgique, le Brésil, le Chili, la Chine, la Colombie, la Corée du Sud, le Côte d'Ivoire, l'Espagne, les États-Unis, la Commission européenne, la France, la Guinée, l'Inde, le Japon, le Mexique, le Pakistan, le Panama, le Pérou, le Portugal, et Singapour.
Cette conférence vient au moment où des millions d'indigné-e-s prennent les rues autour du monde. De Occupy Wall Street aux grèves générales en Portugal, au mouvement des Indignados en Espagne, aux étudiant-e-s au Chili, aux manifestations massives en Angleterre, aux luttes contre l'austérité en Grèce, et ici au Québec, des peuples se lèvent contre les effets désastreux du capitalisme global.
Résister à cette conférence représente une occasion importante de créer un sentiment de solidarité entre ceux et celles luttant contre les coupures aux services publics, ceux et celles qui résistent aux hausses des frais de scolarité, ceux et celles qui ont été congédié-e-s en masse (comme dans le cas d'Aveos) et qui perdent leur prestation d'assurance-emploi avec les réformes conservatrices, ceux et celles qui étaient en lock-out à Rio Tinto Alcan, les communautés autochtones qui luttent contre encore plus de vols de leurs terres (comme on perçoit dans le Plan Nord et le projet Northern Gateway), les sans-emplois qui continuent à subir le choc des politiques économiques formulées par ces conférenciers, les immigré-e-s et les migrant-e-s luttant pour un statut, et les travailleurs et travailleuses migrant-e-s maintenant employé-e-s afin de miner les normes de travail par le biais d'une inégalité salariale légiférée. Nous avons tous et toutes en commun une lutte contre ceux et celles derrières la Conférence de Montréal.
Nous comprenons que plusieurs organisations, qu'elles soient étudiante, anticapitaliste, syndicale, ou communautaire, voudraient planifier leurs propres actions, manifestations, ou contre-conférences. Néanmoins, nous appelons toutes celles et ceux qui sont en lockout, grévistes, étudiant-e-s, qui tapent sur une casserole dans leur quartier, chômeurs et congédié-e-s, à nous joindre lundi le 11 juin, afin de s'unir, car, au global et au local, seule la solidarité vaincra leurs plans d'austérité.

Nous sommes une coalition informelle d'étudiant-e-s impliqué-e-s dans la CLASSE, de militant-e-s au sein du Centre des travailleurs et travailleuses immigrants, d'employé-e-s congédié-e-s d'Aveos et de membres de divers syndicats, incluant le Syndicat des travailleurs et travailleuses des postes et la section locale aérienne 2002 des TCA (employé-e-s d'Air Canada et d'Aéroplane). Nous nous sommes réuni-e-s dans le cadre du mouvement étudiant afin de démontrer une solidarité entre nos luttes, et avons organisé une manifestation le 25 avril contre une réunion des actionnaires de ACE Aviation, la compagnie parente d'Air Canada. Nous croyons qu'en ce moment, il est essentiel d'unir nos luttes contre l'austérité.

From June 11-14th, the International Economic Forum of the Americas (IEFA) or Conference of Montreal will bring together world banks, decision makers and those who forced upon us their economic crisis and austerity agenda. This conference is organized and partnered with the following Elites and their corporations: Power Corporation of Canada, the Autorité des marchés financiers (AMF), RBC Capital Markets, Rio Tinto Alcan, Cisco, Sanofi, Total, GDF SUEZ, McKinsey & Company, SNC-Lavalin, the Caisse de dépôt et placement du Québec, Hydro-Québec, The theme this year's conference is a "global economy in transition."
Those who will be in attendance include the governor of the Bank of Canada Mark Carney, Canadian Finance minister Jim Flaherty, and other architects of austerity against working and poor people here in Canada. Former chairman of the U.S. Federal Reserve, Alan Greenspan will also be attending, as well as the governors of the Central Banks of Portugal, Spain, France, Brazil, Mexico, and Canada. Lastly, MEFA will also welcome delegations from 24 countries, namely: Afghanistan, Argentina, Belgium, Brazil, Chile, China, Colombia, Côte d’Ivoire, England, the European Commission, France, Germany, Guinea, India, Japan, Mexico, Pakistan, Panama, Peru, Portugal, Singapore, South Korea, Spain and the United States.
This conference comes at a time when millions have been taking to the streets across the world. From Occupy Wall Street, to the general strikes in Portugal, to theindignados movement in Spain, to the students in Chile, to massive demonstrations in England, to the anti-austerity struggles in Greece, and here in Quebec, people are rising up against the effects of Global Capitalism and their crisis.
This conference also comes at a time when hundreds of thousands of people are rejecting the proposed tuition hikes, and the repressive and draconian law 78. Further, in popular assemblies and throughout neighborhoods people are opposing the Parti Liberal de Québec's attack on students, workers, and poor-people by continuing to push through a neoliberal agenda which sees fees in public services, and attempts to privatize public services.
Resisting this conference is a critical opportunity for us to create a sense of solidarity between those fighting cut-backs to public services, those resisting tuition hikes, those who were mass-layed off (as in the case of AVEOS) and now have trouble securing unemployment, those who were on lock out at Rio-Tinto-Alcan, for indigenous communities fighting against the further theft of indigenous land (as we are seeing in Plan Nord and the Northern Gateway), the unemployed who continue to bear the brunt of the economic policies crafted by those meeting at the conference, immigrants and migrants who are fighting for status, and migrant workers who are now being used to further undermine labor standards through legislated pay inequality. We all have in common a struggle against those behind this conference.
We understand that many organizations, whether they be students, anti-capitalist, unions, or community organizations, may already be interested in planning their own actions, demonstrations, or counter conferences . Nonetheless, we are calling on all of those who are on lockout, on strike, students, those in the neighborhoods banging their pots and pans, the unemployed and laid off, to join us on Monday June 11th , to come together because only solidarity will defeat their global and local agenda of austerity.

We are a loose coalition/network of students involved in CLASSE, members of different trade unions from the Canadian Union of Postal Workers in Montreal, to laid off workers from Aveos, activists with the Immigrant Workers Centre, and members of CAW 2002 working for Air Canada and Aeroplan. We came together during the student movement to show solidarity between our struggles, and organized a demonstration on April 25th to protest the shareholders meeting of Ace aviation the parent company of Air Canada. We feel that in this moment, with austerity (through lay-offs, the locking out of workers, attempts cut the rights of collective bargaining, and the increase of tuition fees) that it is an important time for us to join our struggles against the austerity agenda!
