In the context of a Montreal convergence in solidarity with the Quebec student strike, a mass night protest is being called for Monday, August 13, at place Émilie Gamelin for the first night of the convergence.
This night demonstration is an opportunity for all people visiting Montreal to stand in solidarity with their comrades seeking to block the state-enforced return to classes, for activists from all over Quebec, Ontario, the Maritimes and the USA to gather together in solidarity on the streets with thousands from Montreal to reject Law 78, and to support the student strike. This protest will be an opportunity for visiting activists to meet and connect with people on the streets in Montreal who have been sustaining this incredible movement.
In the festive and combative spirit of ongoing night protests in Montreal, this action will be an opportunity for thousands to gather in the heart of Montreal in solidarity on the streets after state officials and police attempt to open Cégep André Laurendeau (Montréal), Collège Maisonneuve (Montréal), Cégep Marie-Victorin (Montréal) and Collège Ahuntsic (Montréal) on 13/09, all campuses representing communities, including both students and professors, who maintain a strong support for the strike movement.
As workers, students, and citizens, we have come together to broaden the struggle into a social strike against neo-liberal capitalism; to bring the fight beyond the universities and CÉGEPs and into our workplaces and neighbourhoods. But there can be no social strike without the student strike, and with the government-mandated return to class looming, we need your support! Bring your flags, banners, voices and carré rouges to take the streets !
