Mercredi, le 14 novembre, Israël a lancé sur Gaza sa dernière offensive militaire, « Pilier de la défense », aussi connue sous le nom de « Opération Colonne de nuée ». L’opération a débuté avec le lancement de plus de 65 raids aériens en une seule journée. Ces dernières attaques ont fait 33 morts parmi les Palestinien-ne-s, et 180 blessé-e-s en trois jours. Les raids aériens continuent alors que la population de la bande de Gaza y est enfermée par un blocus hermétique et illégal.

Ces événements surviennent 4 ans après la brutale et dévastatrice opération « Plomb durci » qui avait entraîné le massacre de plus de 1 400 Palestinien-ne-s dans la bande de Gaza. Depuis 2006, Israël a fait en sorte que Gaza demeure la plus grande prison à ciel ouvert au monde, faisant de ses habitants des cibles permanentes des bombardements aveugles des Israéliens.

Le gouvernement canadien continue d’apporter son appui inconditionnel à Israël, malgré ses constantes violations du droit international. Notre gouvernement a été le premier à soutenir le blocus illégal de Gaza, retirant ses 40 millions de dollars d’aide à l’Autorité palestinienne à Gaza. Après le massacre de Gaza en 2008-2009, le Canada a retiré ses fonds de 15 millions de dollars à l'Office de secours et de travaux des Nations Unies pour les réfugiés de Palestine dans le Proche-Orient (UNRWA), la source majeure d’aide alimentaire à Gaza. L’actuel ministre israélien des affaires étrangères, Avigdor Lieberman, avait lui-même déclaré : « Nous avons besoin d’alliés comme le Canada ». Nous devons montrer que la majorité des peuples demandent la fin du soutien du Canada à la guerre permanente contre le peuple de Gaza.

En appuyant cette manifestation pour Gaza, nous appelons les gens de conscience à se joindre à la campagne de Boycott, Désinvestissement et Sanctions (BDS) contre l’État d’Israël jusqu’à ce qu’il respecte le droit international et mette fin à son système d’apartheid. Nous demandons en particulier :

- La fin du blocus cruel imposé à Gaza
- La fin de l’occupation et de la colonisation illégale des terres palestiniennes
- Le démantèlement du mur d’apartheid illégal
- Le respect du droit de retour des réfugié-e-s palestinien-ne-s
- Le respect du droit des Palestinien-ne-s vivant en Israël à une pleine égalité

On Wednesday November 14th Israel declared its latest war on Gaza “Operation Pillar of Defense” also known as “Operation Pillar of Cloud”. The operation was launched with over 65 airstrikes in a period of one day. These latest attacks have led to the deaths of 33 Palestinians, and 180 injured in three days. The air strikes continue amidst a tight and illegal siege of the gaza strip.

This comes 4 years after the brutal and devastating Operation Cast Lead, which saw the massacre of over 1400 Palestinians in the Gaza Strip. Since 2006, Israel has ensured that Gaza would remain the largest open air prison in the world, and that Gazans remain constant targets of indiscriminate Israeli bombardment.

The Canadian government continues to unconditionally support Israel’s regular violations of international law. We have a government that was the first to support the illegal siege and blockade of Gaza, removing its $40 million from the Palestinian Authority in Gaza. After the 2008-2009 Gaza massacre, Canada withdrew its funding of $15 million dollars to UNRWA, the only major source of food in Gaza. According to the current Israeli Foreign minister 'We need allies like Canada' - Avigdor Lieberman. We need to show that that the majority of people demand an end to Canada’s support to Israel’s continued war on the people of Gaza.

In supporting this demonstration for Gaza, we call on people of conscience to join the campaign for Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions (BDS) against the state of Israel until it respects international law and ends its apartheid system, namely by :

- ending its cruel blockade of Gaza
- ending its illegal occupation and colonisation of Palestinian lands
- dismantling its illegal apartheid wall
- respecting the right of Palestinian refugees to return home
- respecting the right of Palestinians living within Israel to full equality
