During the recent annual Congress, a motion was possed to create an ad hoc Antiracist Committee. It consists of people of color, so non-white people, only. Its role is to put forward anti-racist struggles in the ASSE and to submit reflections on them for this autumn's Orientation Congress. You can find the motion's exact wording below. Given the short deadline for its submission, there were only two candicacies that could be processed. This is why I am making a call to YOU! If you are an activist of color and you want to get involved in anti-racist student struggles, this committee is for you! You can get involved as a non-elected contributor or be elected on the Committee at a future meeting. If you are a white ally, I strongly advise you to inform your activist friends of color about this.

Congress' resolution
Whereas institutional and everyday racism are part of our society;
Whereas a significant increase in xenophobia and racism has been observed over the past years in Quebec;
Whereas there’s a need to actively respond to this situation through struggle;
Whereas our organizations are not exempt of racist dynamics;
Whereas racialized people aren’t generally involved in their student associations, including in ASSÉ;
Whereas our Bylaws state that one of ASSÉ’s aims is to “unite local student unions at a regional and national level in order to defend students’ interests through or by: [...] supporting progressive struggles, including those led by workers, women, native peoples, and immigrants;
Be it therefore resolved that we create an ad hoc Antiracist Committee at ASSÉ until the Orientation Congress of fall 2016.
Be it further resolved that this Committee be tasked with bringing reflections on antiracist struggles at ASSÉ to the said Orientation Congress.
Be it further resolved that the Committee’s description read as follows:
The Antiracist Committee is non-mixed. It is therefore composed of racialized students. Its aims are to promote the struggle for the condition of racialized people in education and in the rest of society, through all of ASSÉ’s instances. It may also:
- Produce, in collaboration with the Information Committee, material concerning its topics.
- Ensure the presence of an antiracist analysis, in an intersectional perspective, within its publications.
- Organize, in collaboration with local and regional mobilization committees, antiracist actions.
- Encourage the creation of non-mixed spaces for racialized students and encourage their involvement in student associations.
- Sit at the Coordination Council, where it has the right to second and submit motions.
- Name someone as responsible for coordinating the Committee in order to ensure close collaboration with the Secretary General of the Coordination Council or with the Executive Council.
Be it further resolved that Hind Fazazi be a member of this Committee.
Be it further resolved that Myriam Ennajimi be a member of the ad hoc Antiracist Committee.

Bonjour camarades,
Lors du récent Congrès annuel, une proposition a été adoptée pour créer un Comité ad hoc antiraciste. Il est composé uniquement de personnes racisées (non-blanches et non-blancs). Son rôle est de mettre de l'avant les luttes antiracistes à l'ASSÉ et d'apporter des réflexions sur celles-ci au Congrès d'orientation cet automne. Vous trouverez le libellé exact plus bas. Étant donné le court délai d'envoi de la proposition, il n'y a que deux candidatures qui ont pu être traitées. C'est pourquoi je fais un appel à VOUS! Si vous êtes une militante ou un militant racisé-e et vous souhaitez vous impliquer dans les luttes étudiantes antiracistes, ce comité est pour vous! Il est possible de vous impliquer en tant que collaboratrice ou collaborateur non-élu-e ou bien d'être élu-e sur le Comité lors d'une prochaine instance. Si vous êtes une alliée blanche ou un allié blanc, je vous conseille fortement d'informer vos camarades racisé-e-s à ce sujet.

Mandat du Congrès :
Considérant le racisme institutionnel et ordinaire dans notre société;
Considérant une montée significative de la xénophobie et du racisme ces dernières années au Québec;
Considérant le besoin de répondre activement à cette situation par la lutte;
Considérant que nos organisations de lutte ne sont pas exemptes des dynamiques racistes;
Considérant le manque d’implication des personnes racisées au sein des associations étudiantes, notamment à l’ASSÉ;
Considérant que selon nos Statuts et règlements, un des buts de l’ASSÉ est de «
regrouper les syndicats étudiants locaux aux niveaux régional et national afin de défendre les intérêts des étudiantes et des étudiants : [...] par l’appui et le soutien aux luttes menées par le mouvement ouvrier, les femmes, les autochtones, les immigrants et les immigrantes et l’ensemble des autres luttes progressistes. »
Que l'on crée un Comite ad hoc antiraciste à l'ASSÉ jusqu'au Congrès d'orientation d'automne 2016.
Qu'il soit mandaté d'apporter des réflexions pour ce Congrès au sujet des luttes antiracistes à l'ASSÉ.
Que la description du Comité se lise comme suit :
Le Comité antiraciste est non-mixte. Il est donc composé d'étudiantes et d'étudiants racisé-e-s. Il a pour but de promouvoir la lutte pour la condition des personnes racisé-e-s en éducation comme dans la société et ce, au sein de l'ensemble des instances de l'ASSÉ. Il peut aussi :
- produire, en collaboration avec le Comité d'information, du matériel traitant de leur champ d'intervention;
- s'assurer de la présence d'une analyse antiraciste, dans un cadre intersectionnel, au sein des mémoires et des argumentaires;
- organiser, conjointement avec les comités de mobilisation régionaux et locaux, des actions antiracistes;
- favoriser la création d'espaces non-mixtes pour personnes racisé-e-s et favoriser leur implication dans les associations étudiantes;
- siéger au Conseil de Coordination, où il a droit de proposition et d'appui;
- nommer une personne responsable de la coordination du travail du Comité pour assurer un lien privilégié avec la ou le Secrétaire général-e du Conseil de Coordination et avec le Conseil exécutif.
Que Hind Fazazi soit membre de ce Comité.
Que Myriam Énnajimi soit membre du Comité ad hoc antiraciste de l'ASSÉ.
