All are welcome!
This summer the GSA will be holding weekly movie nights, *free of
charge*to all graduate students, their families and friends!
We are starting the series this week with the movie “Occupation” - a
collaboration with Cinema 17, with guest speakers Charles Tuck and Samuel
Burd, Film Studies students at McGill University and Concordia University,
respectively. Students who were on strike at McGill last semester will also
be present for the discussion. Here is a description of the movie:
“In 1969, the Political Science Student Association of McGill University
voted massively in favour of a strike. Dissatisfied by the biased curricula
and racially exclusive hiring practices of their department, a large group
of students eventually occupied McGill's fourth-floor administrative
offices, insisting that further discussions of the issue be conducted
through the use of a closed-circuit television system. Director Bill Reid
and his film crew lived among these protesters for the length of their
strike, recording the debates, dissent and internal disagreement of
students and staff alike.”
Popcorn will be provided at 3$. Please arrive on time.
