* Recap
*
The 1st gathering, “Toujours RebELLEs,Waves of Resistance” hosted over
500 young feminists in Montréal in October of 2008. For three days,
young feminists gathered to share experiences, stories and analysis. We
engaged in creative resistance actions in the streets, learned from and
with one another, shared our feminist talents, and danced up a storm. We
returned to our regions with a strong foundation for a young feminist
movement in place, one that RebELLEs all across the country have been
building upon for the past two years.
After this first gathering, participants and feminists across the
country unanimously recognized the need for a second gathering to
continue building the movement and connecting with our sisters across
the country. The time for a second gathering is now!
* For Who?
*
The gathering is open to all young women, activists, students, workers,
un(der)employed women, artists, researchers, mothers, feminists of all
tendencies and of all types, and of course emerging feminists, to get
involved!
The gathering will be a women-only space and will be open to all persons
under the age of 35 who currently identify and live as women, including
those who were born female who claim no particular gender
identification, who identify as two-spirit or gender queer.
* Regional Mobilization
*
We are looking for a few young feminist activists from each region,
province and territory willing to contribute further to the organization
of the event, or to become “regional mobilizers”.
The regional mobilizers will work to spread the word about the gathering
and to get more women involved in their own home community, province or
territory and region.
The role of the regional mobilizers is to:
* Ensure communication between their community (province or
territory) and the Organizing Committee
* Support mobilization efforts for the gathering in your region and
the promote the event (a mobilization kit has been created to help
guide you in this role)
* Organize a consulta meeting to answer provided consultation
questions at the regional mobilization meetings to find out what
matters to young women in your community
* Choose, with the participants from the consultation meetings, a
representative from your province or territory who will
participate in the tele-Consulta in late January
* Help to coordinate fundraising efforts so that the young women and
young feminists in your community can make it to Winnipeg this spring!
Whether you have little or lots of experience organizing, we need your
help!Please communicate as soon as possible with the Organizing
Committee if you are interested in helping out the RebELLEs Movement in
this way! rebelles(a)femrev.org <mailto:rebelles@femrev.org>
* Regional Mobilizer Contacts
*
We already have mobilizers in many provinces and territories. If you
would like to contact the mobilizer in your region, would like to help
her out with the mobilization process or would like to attend a
consulta, please contact them below! If you notice your region is not
listed, perhaps you would like to become the mobilizer in your region!

*Consultas
*
The consultation process for the 2011 RebELLEs Gathering is one that is
incredibly important and that requires the help of regional mobilizers
and women from all across the country. The purpose of holding regional
consultas is to gain insight from women in your communities as to what
they/you want to see happen at the 2011 Gathering. What should some of
the focus be? What kind of workshops do you want to participate in? What
are the most crucial areas for action for young women, young feminists
and the RebELLEs Movement today?
The purpose is also to give women in different regions an
opportunity to take part in the development of the project and
have your perspectives heard. This is not just Winnipeg’s
Gathering after all, but /our/ RebELLEs Gathering.
Other goals of the regional consultas are to:
* Share our visions on the content, program, and format of the
gathering
* Meet other local feminists and young women in your region, get to
know each other and build bridges between the Organizing Committee
(OC) and the regional representatives.
* Discuss the process of regional mobilization and the role and
importance of the regional mobilizers in the 2011 Gathering (get
more women on board with mobilization! It doesn’t have to all fall
on your shoulders!)
* Reflect and share on the different oppressions that young women
face and the different struggles that young women across the
country are facing in diverse communities
* Find common mobilization strategies to ensure the diversity of
participants at the gathering
* Start to establish a list of human resources for the gathering
(translators, artists, facilitators, etc.)
* Develop a data-base of ideas for sources of financial support and
discuss ideas for creative fundraising strategies
Consultas will be held between now and January 15, 2011. The information
will be shared at a tele-consulta in January, after which the Organizing
Committee will compile results and incorporate suggestions and ideas
into the content of the 2011 Gathering. If you are able to organize a
consulta in your region or you would like to participate in one, please
contact the mobilizer in your region or if there is not a mobilizer in
your area, call or email the OC and we can work together to set one up!
*Contact the mobilizer in your area to see when a consulta is taking place!*
* Getting Yourself to the May 2011 Gathering
*
Because of the current political and economic climate in Canada, the
Organizing Committee has only a limited amount of travel subsidies for
women to attend the 2011 Gathering in Winnipeg; the majority of travel
subsidies will be reserved for women who have been historically
marginalized from participating in events like these, including women
living in Northern and Rural communities, Indigenous and newcomer women,
women living with disAbilities, lesbian, bisexual and transgender women,
low-income women, and girls aged 14-22.
In order to ensure that many women from across the country can come to
the gathering we**will be providing you with a *Fundraising Kit* in the
coming weeks,**but don't let us hold up your fundraising! Check out the
Fundraising Kit from 2008***(Available for download at
www.rebelles.org
<http://www.rebelles.org/>)*to start off your brainstorming for
fundraising your way to Winnipeg!
The Organizing Committee will also be available for support and advice
in your fundraising endeavours along the way. Contact us to see if we
can also put you in touch with any other women we know in your region
who are fundraising and organizing to come to the gathering as well! And
of course, if you know any other women in your community who might be
interested in attending the gathering, reel ‘em in and get together to
raise funds and organize yourselves to get to Winnipeg! Two feminist
heads are better than one!

* To watch out for!
*
In the next two months you should keep your eyes open for:
* The official RebELLEs 2011 Poster
* Website updates (under renovation!)
* The 2011 Fundraising Kit
* An update on the consultation process
* Online Registration
* A call out for volunteers, artists and performers as well as
workshop facilitators
*Please do not hesitate to get in contact with the 2011 Organizing
Committee with your questions or suggestions!*
