Depuis plus d’une vingtaine d’années, le C.O.B.P. invite les citoyens-ennes
de Montréal à une manifestation afin d’exprimer une colère face à la police
du Québec qui se nourrit de la répression, du profilage et de la brutalité
de ce corps policier. Chaque année, nous émettons de multiples
revendications et critiques par rapport aux méthodes d’intervention, aux
abus et à l’impunité policière. Cette année ne fait pas exception : Le
Collectif Opposé à la Brutalité Policière vous invite à prendre la rue le
15 mars 2018 et à exprimer par tous les moyens nécessaires le refus de se
soumettre à l’autorité coloniale et capitaliste qu’exerce la police. Il est
important d’exprimer d’emblée que cette manifestation se déroule sur un
territoire autochtone non cédé dont la classe politique du Québec s’accorde
le droit d’imposer son autorité.
Les comportements policiers qui nous exaspèrent sont particulièrement
nombreux. Cependant, cette année, nous trouvons primordial de dénoncer la
complicité dont font preuve les policiers-ères du Québec face aux groupes
d’extrême-droite, anti-immigration ou islamophobe. C’est à cause de cette
complicité que les rassemblements de groupes racistes ont pu avoir lieu
sans être perturbés par les contre-manifestations. En effet, la répression
policière s’est exercée face aux contre-manifestations, au profit des
rassemblements d’extrême-droite et néo-nazi. Le résultat est que des
groupes anti-immigration, violents et pro-armes peuvent exprimer leurs
propagandes sans trop de gêne.
Nous devons souligner aussi qu’une part de responsabilité de la montée des
groupes d’extrême-droite doit être attribuée à plusieurs médias du Québec,
qui s’efforcent de discréditer les idées et le travail des groupes
antifascistes. Ils-elles osent même faire des comparaisons douteuses entre
les moyens de pression des groupes d’extrême-gauche et les attentats très
violents de l’extrême-droite. Comme si le triste attentat de la mosquée de
St-Foy, ayant couté la vie de plusieurs innocents-es, n’avait jamais
existé. Certains médias continuent de nourrir l’extrême-droite notamment en
inventant de toutes pièces une histoire canalisant la colère raciste de
groupes islamophobe contre une mosquée de Montréal.
Cette année, le C.O.B.P. veut exprimer ces sentiments de révolte face aux
médias, à la montée de l’extrême-droite et face aux corps policiers du
Québec. Nous appelons donc les citoyens-ennes du Québec à nuire par tous
les moyens nécessaires à la montée de l’extrême-droite. Nous crions depuis
des années que la police est au service des riches et des fascistes et
cette année, le corps policier justifie plus que jamais cette affirmation.
C’est pourquoi, nous nous joignons à la lutte antifasciste et vous invitons
à un 5 à 7 avec nourriture et prises de parole le 15 mars 2018 au Parc
Lafontaine organisé par SOS itinérance, suivi à 19h30 de la manifestation
annuelle contre la brutalité policière et sa police, dont le départ sera
également au parc Lafontaine.

For more than over 20 years now, the C.O.B.P. has been inviting all
citizens to participate in demonstrations aiming to express anger towards
the fact that the Quebec Police corps feeds off of repression, profiling
and brutality. Each year, we issue several claims pertaining to the
police’s intervention methods, their abuse and the impunity that is of
second nature to their profession. This year is no exception : the
Collectif Opposé à la Brutalité Policière invites you to take to the
streets on March 15, 2018, in order to express by all means necessary our
refusal to bow down to the colonial and capitalist authority that is the
police. It is of utmost importance to highlight the fact that this
demonstration will take place on unsurrendered indigenous territory which
the Quebec political class continues to think is an area that it governs.
The behaviours demonstrated by the police towards which we take offence are
particularly extensive. However, this year, we think it is paramount to
expose the complicity that exists within members of the Quebec police corps
in relation to far-right groups, anti-immigration groups and islamophobic
groups. It is because of this complicity that racist group gatherings are
allowed to take place without having to face counter-demonstration. Indeed,
police repression is now exercised towards counter-demonstration, to the
benefit of far right and neo-Nazi groups. The result is that violent and
pro-arms anti-immigration groups are freely allowed to disseminate their
propaganda.
We also need to highlight the fact that the Quebec media is partially
responsible for the rise in far-right groups when they work to discredit
the anti-fascist ideology and its efforts. The media goes as far as to
publish weak comparisons between the pressure tactics used by the far-left
and the extremely violent attacks perpetrated by the far-right. It is as
though the tragic attack against the mosque in St-Foy, which took the life
of several innocent bystanders, never happened. Certain media outlets
continue to feed the far-right by falsely explaining that an attack such as
this one was fuelled by islamophobic hate.
This year, the C.O.B.P. wishes to express feelings of revolt towards the
media, towards the rise of far-right groups and towards the entire Quebec
police corps. We are calling upon all Quebec citizens to push against the
rise of the far-right by all means necessary. For years now, we have been
saying that the police are in bed with fascist wealth and this year, the
police force has demonstrated this more than ever.
Here is the reason why we are joining the anti-fascist struggle and
inviting you to Parc La Fontaine on March 15th for a « 5 à 7 » cocktail
event where food will be served and where you can take the floor to express
your opinions (organized by SOS initinérance), followed at 7:30 pm by the
actual annual demonstration against police brutality, which will also take
off from Parc La Fontaine.
