à participer aux trois prochains événements mentionnés ci-dessous. Des invitées venant de
plusieurs communautés au Canada se déplaceront pour venir partager leur savoir avec la
communauté Montréalaise. Nous vous invitons fortement à participer ainsi qu’à inviter vos

Conférence/Discussion @ 19 heures
Le collectif présente une conférence/discussion où parleront 3 invitées autochtones :
Bernie Williams (Walk4Jusitce, Vancouver), Marylynn Poucachiche (Lac Barrière) et Nakuset
(Foyer Pour Femmes Autochtones de Montréal)

Invitées :
Bernie Williams est une des fondatrice de Walk4Justice, un collectif basé à Vancouver qui
organise une marche annuelle pour sensibiliser la population à la réalité des femmes
autochtones disparues et assassinées au Canada ainsi que pour revendiquer une enquête
publique. En 2008, les participant-e-s de Walk4Justice ont marché de Vancouver à Ottawa
et, cette année, ces dernier-e-s ont marché jusqu’au Manitoba. Bernie Williams parlera de
son expérience avec le collectif Walk4Justice et parlera également de son opposition à
l’apathie existante envers les femmes disparues et assassinées dans le quartier Downtown
Eastside à Vancouver ainsi que sur l’autoroute surnommée Highway of Tears.
Nakuset est la Directrice exécutive du Foyer pour Femmes Autochtones de Montréal. Elle
partagera ses expériences relatives à son travail et exposera comment les coupures au
budget de la Fondation de guérison autochtone ont eu un impact sur les services sociaux
offerts aux femmes autochtones.
Marylynn Poucachiche habite la communauté Algonquine du Lac-Barrière située à 5 heures au
Nord de Montréal. Depuis plusieurs années, elle s’est grandement impliquée dans des luttes
politiques de sa communauté entre autres pour l’obtention des droits territoriaux. Elle
parlera de son militantisme aussi bien que les réalités de la violence faite envers les
femmes de sa communauté.

Marche et vigile @ 18 heures
Marche annuelle commémorative pour les femmes autochtones disparues et assassinées de
l’organisation Sœurs par l’Esprit (Sisters in Spirit) avec invitées; Bridget Tolley, Sue
Martin, Bernie Williams et d’autres.
@ Square Cabot, au coin des rues St-Catherine et Atwater (Métro Atwater)
La 5ième édition annuelle de la Marche commémorative organisée par Sœurs par l’esprit
prendra place dans plusieurs villes à travers le pays, incluant Ottawa, Edmonton et
Montréal. En 2009, 75 marches commémoratives ont eu lieu au Canada ainsi qu’une première
édition a eu lieu au Nicaragua. Il s’agit d’une journée nationale de commémoration, de
respect et de revendications à auprès du gouvernement. Les participant-e-s se
rassembleront au Square Cabot pour ensuite marcher sur la rue Ste-Catherine en direction
Est jusqu’au Square Phillips (en face de La Baie) pour une vigile aux chandelles.

Solidarity Teach-in @ 3 pm
"Fighting systemic violence against Native women in Canada”
Come join Missing Justice members to learn about the systemic issues that contribute to
violence against Indigenous women living in Canada and what actions can be taken to fight
this injustice.

Panel Discussion @ 7 pm
Missing Justice presents a panel discussion with invited guests Bernie Williams
(Walk4Justice, Vancouver), Marylynn Poucachiche (Barriere Lake), and Nakuset (Native
Women's Shelter of Montreal).

Speakers:
Bernie Williams is one of the founders of Walk4Justice, a grassroots-organized annual
Vancouver-based walk to raise awareness about missing and murdered indigenous women in
Canada and to demand a public inquiry. In 2008, Walk4Justice participants walked all the
way from Vancouver to Ottawa, and this year, they made it to Manitoba. Williams will talk
about her experiences with the Walk4Justice and speak out against the apathy towards
missing and murdered women from Vancouver's downtown eastside and the Highway of
Tears.
Nakuset is the Executive Director at the Native Women's Shelter of Montreal. She will
share her experiences about working at the shelter and how cuts to the Aboriginal Healing
Foundation budget have undermined the social services provided to Indigenous women in the
city.
Marylynn Poucachiche is from the Algonquin community of Barriere Lake, 5 hours north of
Montreal. She has been at the forefront of her community's struggles for land and
governance rights for many years. She will talk about her activism as well as having to
deal with the realities of violence against women in her community.
Monday, October 4th
March and Vigil @ 6 pm
Annual Sisters in Spirit (SIS) March and Vigil for missing and murdered Native women, with
invited guests Bridget Tolley, Sue Martin, Bernie Williams, and many others.
@ Cabot Square, St-Catherine and Atwater (metro Atwater)
The 5th annual SIS March & Vigil will take place in communities across the country,
including Ottawa, Edmonton and Montreal. 2009 saw close to 75 SIS vigils occur across the
country, with it's first ever occurence in Nicaragua as well. It is a national day of
remembrance, respect, and demands for government action. Marchers will assemble at Cabot
Square, and the march will proceed east down St. Catherine Street to Phillips Square
(across the street from The Bay) for a candlelight Vigil.

available.
